Marc Broussard

Reid (of the one and only Reid Rolls photography) called me up about 6 weeks ago to let me know that he was working on doing a job for Atlantic Records with an artist named Marc Broussard. When he asked me to be on the team to style to shoot, I was of course down for it. The shoot was scheduled in a few days after the launch party for SLEEVELESS so it was in the wake of craziness. Lucky for me, I seem to thrive on crazy, intense schedules. (Well, to a point.)

I knew that I must be a little out of pop culture when I was pulling clothes for the shoot and all the sales people were stoked that I was doing a shoot with Marc. I don't like to listen to an artist before I work with them because what if I don't like their music? Or what if I love their music but they are narcissistic and then I feel like I'm feeding the ego by complimenting them. So, I usually just let it be a mystery.

Despite the day starting early and working on little sleep, we had so much fun. Probably one of the most fun groups of people that I've been able to work with. Besides Reid and Lo (hair/makeup) we also had Laura Dart, Marc's manager, brother, and Atlantic's creative director all hanging out. We listened to Marc's new album and he sang along. Great voice, crazy talented, and beautiful lyrics. When this album drops, you have to go out and get it immediately!

So, I fancy myself a cell phone photog pro so here are a few shots from the day...

We shot the first half the day indoors on a seamless white and the last half of the day we went to a cozy Scot-themed studio where Marc does a lot of his writing. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product and curious to find out which look they choose for his cover.

What I wore: Imogene and Willie 1 Year Anniversary!

Imogene and Willie knows how to throw a great party! For those of you who don't know about I+W, let me school you. The owners, husband and wife team, Matt and Carrie, come from extensive backgrounds working with premium denim brands like Double RL (RRL), JBrand, etc, before launching their own raw denim line in 2009. A year ago today, to be precise.

A quick google search of the store will tell you about their "impeccable selection of salvaged vintage clothes" or the fact that they have "blurred the lines between shop, hang out spot and restaurant". (Design Sponge) But in my words, they simply have a pulse on culture and an effortless way of creating and defining "cool". Just ask the hundreds of musicians, Nashvillians, friends and supporters who came last night to their one year anniversary party. Local artists sang in the fenced in backyard, the local taco truck came and provided fresh, spicy Mexican fare and sangria kept the whole party hydrated.

While I didn't have my own I+W denim on (I do love them though!) I thought I'd post a few pics (taken with my friends new 4G Iphone) of myself and friends while we talked the night away. I think we were the last to leave at 12:30 am...the party was that good!

I wore a little cotton, one-shoulder, mini dress with vintage jaguar belt, and my Nilah cuff from SLEEVELESS 2011 collection.

Thanks Matt and Carrie for bringing your vision of I+W to life here in Nashville. Just one more reason I love it here!

LOVE POTION #9

I titled this post, Love Potion #9 because this is my 9th love-fest of the year. Yep, wedding number 9! For not being a "wedding blog" per say, I have been doing a lot of wedding blogging.

This wedding was special because it was my good friend Lindsay's day to be a Bride and she married her sweet man, Trevor. I must say, Lindsay made a beautiful bride! You may remember her face from my previous post HERE where we did her promotional images for her music career.

Lindsay wore a wedding dress from Sarah Seven and vintage inspired shoes from Seychelles. Her "something old" was her bracelet which was made from a piece of lace from her mother's veil. Jessica Maros of SLEEVELESS made her a custom veil and necklace just for the occasion. I'm blown away by that veil!

Here are some of my favorite bridal photos (snapped by my Droid cell phone camera)...SO STUNNING!

I was a bridesmaid in this wedding, and I'll have to wait to get photos from the professional photog, Blu, to post pics of all of us girls together but here are some of my pics, in the meantime. All the girls wore Anthropologie dresses in different patterns and a navy/black/grey-green pallet with coral-colored pumps from Urban Outfitters.

They said their vows under old wooden arch decorated simply with flowers in old mason jars and milk jugs. The rings were in an old filigree box.

Lindsay walked down the aisle to Brandi Carlile's "The Story" and the wedding party walked in to "The Offer" by Katie Herzig. Here are some more snaps of all the little details that made this a great wedding...from the homemade ice cream and cobblers to the candles hanging from the trees and the precious childhood pics of Lindsay (coke bottle glasses) and Trevor (long hair, leather jacket and combat boots).

And I had to post this, because we really look like sisters straight out of someone's "Big Fat Greek Wedding!" Don't we look related?!

All in all, it was a great wedding weekend and I got to meet both of their wonderful families. I wish for them everything good that life has to offer...

A Kearney Wedding: MAT and ANNIE!

In case you missed this on OnceWed, I wanted to make sure I posted about yet another gorgeous wedding I attended this summer. None other than Annie's of this very Ivory Feather blog! If it seems like I've been on a wedding kick, it may have to do with the fact that we are going to 13 weddings this year! Yep, you heard right, THIRTEEN weddings! Come to think about it, I may not have any single friends after this year...crazy to think about!

Their wedding was so beautiful and the after party was so fun. A great testimony to the good friends and family that they have in their lives.

House Warming

I titled this blog "house warming" because even though we have been in our new house for almost a year now, I'm still working on the "lived in" and layered look that gives it the worn, loved feel.

For example, I have a console table behind my sofa that is the first thing that guests see when the walk in the house. I've put some different chotchkies on table but it still feels staged in a bad way. I found this image that gave me some great ideas. I particularly like the hat perched on the mirror. My mom and dad made me some really cool distressed plant stands out of an old turned table leg. I propped my hat on the top instead of a plant and I love the effect. I'll post pics as soon as I get back home. (I'm in Atlanta shopping SLEEVELESS to boutiques here)

The shells are from one of the 13 weddings that we attended this summer. I got the bookends from a flea market last year and the tusk from a salvage place. A tree in my front yard has a few less leaves thanks to my little impromptu arrangement...and you can see, I propped my fedora on the plant stand that my parents made for us!

Here are some other amazing photos that I pulled from the world wide web that fit the aesthetic of our home and lend themselves very well to the mood that I want people to feel when they come over. Light and white doesn't mean sterile, as you can see in these images! I found this image on www.pintrest.com and of course, what's not to love. Obviously, this table (and take a close look at the old window panes) is what adds the warmth to this space.

I have an old farm table and I had the table top wrapped in stainless steel. While it looks cool, it's also a little cold, so I added a centerpiece of a rough wooden half of a log that holds tea lights. It's helping, but maybe I could add rattan runners that run the width (rather than length) of the table to act as permanent place mats? Runners are tricky business. Only the neat and clean person can maintain place mats of any sort, let alone table runners! Thoughts?

I scavenged my house for something else to add to this beautiful tea light holder that my friend (and talented craftsman) Tim made, but I need the right items with the right scale and texture. Here's before: And after:

This mirror is insane...and it's the kind of gem that you really have to just search for...it's hard to fake this weathered look...Our fireplace is filled to the brim with round logs, as it doesn't work but I'm in search of a moroccan blanket to throw over a chair. I would do a rug, if only I could get my dog to NOT PEE on it. Embarrassing behavior, but the truth.

This just in! More Red, White and "Something Blue" Wedding

I just scoped out some "preview" pics from Alex Marvar who was one of the 3 pro photogs who documented the weekend. She's a singer, writer and freelancer for Vanity Fair and she does justice to some of my favorite moments of the whole weekend!

The night before their wedding, all of the wedding guests and the Bride and Groom went out to the Main Street in town and square danced the night away! Here they are in their square dancing duds at the Buxton Inn bar:

"Save your fork" was a touching memory of one of her Dad's favorite phrases. It signified his way of saying that "the best is yet to come". It was a significant part of the message during the ceremony and these signs were placed on the table. A perfect remembrance to a man who was a cornerstone for such a great family! Gotta love the Ford family!

Red, White and "Something Blue" - A Wedding Story

I went to the most beautiful, thoughtful, wedding on July 3rd at a little cabin built in 1881. I believe the story is that the owner built the cabin for his mistress as a romantic get-a-way. Whether or not that is a romantic notion, this wedding certainly was romantic, rustic, breath-taking and effortless all rolled into one. All the powers that engineered this event planned it in only 8 weeks or so!

This was my 8th wedding of 2010 and I have to say, that the love Leanne and Brad share is definitely to foundation of this memorable night. It may sound cheesy but their wedding was anything but. It authentically represented a couple who is so loving and kind and well, just plain cool. (If you know them, you will agree!) They are two very creative people (she's a wardrobe stylist and word-smith and he's a creative person at American Eagle) and their wedding was an accurate reflection of them.

My photos are a bit out of order, but you get the idea. Some of the highlights of the night were:

1. Sparklers that were brought out to dance with on the dance floor.
2. Bluegrass music by my friends Jon and Liz.
3. The wishing well where all the ladies stood around making wishes into an old (very old) well.
4. The small cabin that had been converted to a bar with dangling tea lights and roughly hewn tables.
5. Massive hydrangea blooms that graced the table and landscape.
6. Vintage colored glasses on the table.
7. An old table and mirror with tall candles in the port-a-potty digs.

These photos were taken with my cell phone that doesn't have a flash so I wasn't able to capture some of the moments once it got dark but not one detail was left unattended too!

It was a memorable evening, that is for sure!

Cheap and Chic-Bar Soap

My man brought home some no-frills, seriously organic "pure and gentle, soap the other day....like a whole box of it! A years, supply, in fact. We actually, up to this point, haven't even used bar soap in our house aside from the occasional travel size pilfered from a hotel.

I love the idea of organic, pure...well, anything, but this soap wasn't very pretty at all! And it comes in an ugly plastic case. Dustin went around the house putting the soap by every sink, still in the packaging. Since we moved into our house only a year ago, I'm working hard at removing any "new" feeling from our space and give it a lived in, layered and creative environment. Well, the placement of the soap looked super generic.

While I was at Anthropologie today picking out iron hooks to mount on our wall in SLEEVELESS's new retail space, I grabbed a couple soap dishes. One is small and wouldn't hold this huge bar of soap and the other was the perfect size. I went home and sliced my soap into little slivers intended for one time use.

I put them in the small dish and into the guest bath they went....

I put the other bar of soap by the sink...but I think I will slice this bar up as well because it just looks so much prettier!

So, I thought I'd share a relatively inexpensive way to take a boring bar of soap and style it pretty. Do you have any ideas to warm up our house by using thrifted items, old, colored bottles, herbs...etc. etc. I would love to hear more ideas!

"SABOT"

Take a lunch break to run over the Sabot, a small but impactful little boutique in the Buckhead shopping district of Atlanta, GA. The store carries brands that are as clever and sophisticated as the name of this boutique that headlines shoes and accessories. Since I have an affinity for Rick Owens and Yigal Azrouel, I was immediately drawn to Zero by Maria Cornejo.
Mostly monochromatic color scheme with a few pops of color and lots of drapey action, of course was all I needed to get me "into" this brand.

I had a great conversation with Desiree, the sweet and savvy owner, about being in business and the problem solving that comes part and parcel with being an entrepreneur. Sabot has been in business for 7 years and has weathered much of the economic storm that has been the death of many retailers. We both agreed on two things: 1.) Do what you love, and the 4 letter W-O-R-K isn't so bad, in fact, it can be a lot of fun....and 2.) Go big or go home! There just isn't a happy medium...you just gotta go for it!

On that note, Sabot, is our first boutique in Atlanta carrying the SLEEVELESS accessory line, so if you are in ATL, please stop in and shop for all their fine offerings....or find them online Taigan.com.

Be-Dazzled

Maybe I'm the last to know about Zuhair Murad, but this Lebanese designer has the most brilliant gowns, party dresses and couture. If I had a million dollars, I would have a closet full of these over the top frocks.
How are these for a Little Black Dress? I think so!!!!!

And what about this seaside inspired vision? I don't even know where I would wear this, but I would want to try it on and walk around my house and then hang it back in my closet as a collector's item....

Float Downstream...

Now that the river has receded back to it's rightful place after the flood here in Nashville, TN, it may be time for an afternoon float down stream on the Harpeth River. Vogue Italia

Maybe I can squeeze a stylish afternoon in on the river between the 12 weddings and upteenth # of showers and bachelorette parties I'm attending this wedding season. Speaking of showers, I'm planning a lusty, Moroccan themed lingerie shower for this coming Monday night. Think backyard cabana, lanterns, chai amaretto cocktails...mmmm....I'll try to snap some pics to share.

Skip Spring...Go Straight to Summer. Collect $200.

Myself and my SLEEVELESS business cohorts just returned from an insanely productive trip to NYC where we met with industry people and shopped our accessory line. We met great people that were eager to help us grow and ate some great food. And of course, we squeezed in some time to shop. Well, some of us did. I, unfortunately didn't get much time for that on this trip but I did want to tell you about what my armloads of frothy, filmy, printed and textured dresses, tops and clogs that Jess and Bek came back with! I'm a little green with envy at the scores of summery items they found. Here in Nashville, we never saw spring. The weather swapped out winter for blazing hot summer, never getting an inkling of the softer heat that we usually experience before the wave of humidity. It was a full affront to my senses, but I'm not complaining! I just am now realizing that it's definitely time to retire the black leggings and opaque tights and general black theme I've had going for the past 5 months.

I'm breaking out the light chiffons, floral and indian prints, and all my bohemian fare. Jessica came back from NYC with a dress that I'm lusting after. Moderately priced (150 bucks) for it's beauty, the dress is from a line called Aoyama Itchome. The Japanese man behind the label resides in France and so you see the influence of both cultures and the result is flowy, drapy flattering sillouhettes in bohemian prints.

Belt this little number and wear it to your backyard patio party!

It's white wine 'o clock at my house on the patio every afternoon at 5. I'm going to have to ease up on that, but with a cute summery dress and a chilled sauvignon blanc, it's really hard not to get carried away!

James Dunn and Sleeveless "News"

I'm busy as I can possibly be these days working on our (Jessica Maros and myself's) new line called Sleeveless. We are in the process of making press kits to send up to NYC before we head up and meet with boutiques and industry people, editing down our collection and making prototypes of the clutches that we are rolling out for Fall 2011. So, we are busy round the Sleeveless Studio.

I recently did a photo shoot for Americana-rock musician, James Dunn and after feeling good about almost 6 solid looks between the studio and location, photog, Reid Rolls, captured this "cover" shot. Absolutely stunning. I gotta say, I love his wardrobe for the shoot and Reid's choice of location and brilliant natural light give this guy the Americana look to match his lyrics and sound.

To achieve the mood in this pic was one part wardrobe, one part brilliant photography and direction, one part cool dude, and one part breaking out a bottle of wine and swigging straight from the bottle.

I'm sharing an absolute gem here, by introducing you to Sarah Seven, a Portland based dress designer. I find myself lusting after these dresses (which can be found on etsy or HERE at her website) for hours on end...no joke. They are just the right amount of whimsy and sophistication. I'm helping 2 of my friends with their weddings and after showing them this site, they both placed custom orders immediately. Now that I have a few weddings to be in and several more to attend, I feel like I have plenty of excuses to get myself one of her fancy frocks.

I am beside myself, just looking at these pictures. I want to be frolicking in the fields or lazing around in a hammock with a good book, a glass of sparkling water with lime in some summer sun, wearing a one of these beauties. The unusualy long bout we've had with this frigid weather is taxing my last nerve and I'm ready for summer pastels and fresh cocktails!

Much Ado About....

The advent of my best friend's wedding, I have found the ideal bridesmaid dress to fullfill all my goals. I needed to find a cocktail dress in the "blue" family...somewhere between cobalt and navy. I found some beautiful couture dresses at pricepoints to break the bank and loads of dresses that I loved (like the white Maxazria dress below) that just didn't come in any shade of blue, and a lot of unsophisiticated dress that weren't fit for a wedding. I finally found this little number that I can accessorize to fit the greatness of the occassion, but I can also wear a number of different ways for future events. A bridesmaid dress that I WILL TRULY wear again!

And after searching EVERY online store, and every local boutique/mall....I found it at Topshop online!

FOR $90!

I have to say that the draping and fabric is beautiful and sophisticated and all around fit the requirements I was (til Topshop) searching in vain for!

Here's another dress that I wanted to buy...but alas, lace is NOT dyeable! (But it is on sale for $159.00...that's ridiculous!...so someone else get it and let me borrow it!)

We are currently putting together our Lookbook and website and all the trappings of a business plan. Leggings: To wear or not to wear?

Leggings are definitely a "do" but I've had som requests recently about how to wear them. Primarily I've been fielding these questions from moms whose main audiences are their toddlers but even though their audience isn't picky, they still want to be stylish. Leggings can be worn for someone who has a rock and roll, vintage or preppy aesthetic. There are endless ways to wear them...and here are just a few...

A lot of moms want to be lookin' good without spending a mint, simply because they don't know if they are going to end up with some of their child's lunch on their duds. So, here a few 3 no-brainer ways to wear the same black leggings.

1. With a long t-shirt and tailored blazer. For a more on-trend look, buy a blazer with some serious shoulder pads! (I have been killing this look lately.) I like this look with some serious gladiator heels or sky high booties...but for the practical, yet fashionable, mommy look, do some studded ballet flats.

2. With an easy summer dress and long-ish cardigan sweater paired with a boot. This is a clever way to take a summer dress into the fall and winter. You can do boots with heels or no heel, vicotrian style lace-up, or a basic cowboy boot. Whichever boot you choose gives you an entirely new look.

3. For an "I-looked-like-I-went-to-yoga-but-it's-really-coffee-with-the-girlfriends-and-babies", pair your leggings layer a drapey cashmere sweather with a basic t-shirt or soft denim button down and a flat shoe.

Always cover the booty no matter what size you are because you never know if your leggings are more transparent once you hit the sunlight! My formula for leggings basically involves a quality long-ish shirt that covers the butt with different layering jackets or sweaters and a good shoe or boot. Here are a few great examples of how to wear leggings. I love the vintage fur jacket or the idea of belting your sweater for a more pulled together appearance.

You know I don't really gravitate towards preppy prints and bright colors but JCrew continues to impress me with their catalogs. They have a really GREAT stylist. I would wear any of these combos....just beautiful!
It looks like she draws a little inspiration from Nylon, pairing the socks with pumps and torn jeans, and then gives it a high end twist with all the asymetrical ruffled T's and cashmere sweaters and blingy costume jewelry.

I especially love the vintage-inspired brown short boots. Just really loving what J Crew is putting out...maybe it's time for a visit to their store.

My LUST LIST

I have to apologize for my absence! It's 3:43 AM and I am posting a blog...ok, I just erased that and thought it'd be funny to share, that while I am posting a blog, I'm actually doing a little online shopping...a little for me...a little for a client, but whose counting. So, I have to share with you all my LUST LIST. I'm coveting these items in a way that is probably not healthy, but I just want them so desperately!This boot is awesome because you are getting 3 heights for the price of...well, 3 boots. But no matter, here it is in 2 of the heights, ankle and knee-high worn with some of my favorites from Max Azria's spectacular Fall Collection.

(Off the subject, but a great tip: what really makes these outfits extra spectacular is the way they paired the "extras" with the main piece. For example, the white dress, black mini, and the felt asymetrical vest, all have the same lace turtleneck layered underneath and the black one shoulder dress has a sheer knit turtlenck with it. The leather gloves, suede leggings, turtlenecks really give the look "the look". You can try this for a much lower cost with a sheer long sleeved black tee and a dress in your own closet. Pile on the gloves, leggings, boots until you find a good balance for you. Remember, unless you are a size zero, layering can make you look bulkier than you are so layer with very sheer fabrics.)

As far as jackets go, I'm torn between a drapey, asymetrical Helmut Lang jacket that is similar to this one. It is partially a soft leather and partially wool.

OR this washed leather biker jacket (in black) from Rick Owens.
Clearly, the latter is a bit more special...for A LOT more price tag. Either way, it's gorgeous and I plan on saving my pennies.

I also have a dilemma because I am wanting these Prada pumps...eeek! Time to start looking for "the look for less". But I will keep you aprised on my SPLURGE(s)!

I just got back from a packed weekend in LA where I spent much of the time styling a fashion story with Photog Reid Rolls and Model Kojii Helnwein. Our story was focused on the new silhouette of the season which you've no doubt noticed us blogging about already. The bold shouldered, menswear inspired fashions boasting pleated trousers and splashes of neon.

Introducing Kojii Helnwein, who you may recognize from the current season of Project Runway and the new take-off, Models of the Runway, as our model! This is a teaser photo from our day of shooting. Behind The Scenes: Britten

Last week I had the opportunity to style one of my very dear friends Britten. Britten is a Nashville singer/songwriter but I almost hesitate to put him in that box considering he might just be one of the most talented voices I have ever heard. Drawing one of the most enthusiastic crowds in Nashville, Britten is also a class A crooner. He is more than soulful, has a ridiculous range and isn't too hard on the eyes either. I was mostly excited about this shoot because I am for sure one of his number one fans (in case you couldn't tell hehe).

Behind the Scenes: with a new Team

This is just a teaser few photographs from a shoot I did recently with a new team that I'd yet to work with. It was my second time working with Lo Lopez, hair and make up artist who hails from Los Angeles, and Eli McFadden, photog, who is from right here in Nashville, TN. They had started this shoot as a beauty story and brought me in to do styling toward the end. Here are a couple of my favorite photos.
You've seen Laurenne, our model, in some of my other shoots. She's great to work with! I love the technique that Eli used hear to get that double vision action going on. Whatever the technical term is, I have no clue, but I like it!

The Perfect Season

Fall is just around the corner and I more than thrilled. I love everything about fall... the smells, the colors, the crisp weather, but most of all I love the clothes! I have already seen so many looks that I can't wait to incorporate into my little wardrobe! So get on your shopping sneakers... (preferably the all white ankle ones with the velcro straps) and let's get to work.

We are going to start with a few different looks to get you started, then you may venture out on your own to put your own little personal twist to our ideas!

Tights. This fall these little things are going to be one of your greatest accessories. Venture out and don't be afraid to use bold patterns and bright colors. Tights cant be worn with several different outfits... i.e. shorts, skirts, dresses and cropped pants.

Okay, this fall this is going to be one of my signature looks. High waisted pants are VERY flattering on ALL body types. So... that means don't use the excuse that you can't pull it off because you can!

Classic Fall... You can never go wrong with a little collared shirt and a flattering skirt. But... DON'T BE BORING! Add a cute hair piece, an amazing bag or some neon tights to jazz up the look.

I am positive we will see a lot of this during the fall season but make it original! Try different colored blazers, a skirt with a super bold print or add a bright colored scarf. Add tights and heels for a more dressed up look.

Don't be afraid to try new things this season...

Be confident in what you wear (even if being bold and different makes you a little nervous).

You will be sure to feel good about being different!

How to: Dress for the workplace with "Panache"

In my past life, I worked in the corporate world of sales and I remember the challenge of looking sophisticated, appropriate and fashion-forward. Recently, I had a friend come to me who is in the same boat and asked me to write a blog to give her some fresh ideas.

Ideally, you have to decide what kind of image you want to give to your co-workers, business partners and clients. For women, I think a good look to go for is feminine, assertive, professional, all at the same time, representing your own creative, individual style.

Before I give you some outfit ideas, I wanted to give you a few questions to ask yourself before making a purchase.

1.) Fit: If we are between sizes, it is always tempting to buy the size down, telling ourselves that we will loose the extra few pounds or make sure to hit the gym and tone up. (Sound familiar?) But how frustrating is it to repeatedly pull that garment out of the closet in the morning and never feel like you've attained that goal and that it still remains just a little too snug for comfort?! My advice is get the size up and have it tailored for the perfect fit. It's worth the extra few bucks, not only because you are getting the perfect fit, but you are preserving yourself the AM berating that occurs when you haven't lost the few pounds you swore you would.

2. Take an inventory of your closet before you shop. I think the key basics for a "workplace wardrobe are as follows:
a.) pencil skirt (or two or three in neutral colors...black, grey, brown etc)
b.) a-line or full skirts in interesting fabrics or prints (more forgiving for most body-types)
c.) denim trouser
d.) regular trouser pant OR if you want to get creative and fashion-forward you can try one of the new pant shapes that are out, like a cropped skinny pant in a formal trouser fabric.
e.) a button down white oxford (look for the perfect fit...may be wise to have this tailored thru a company like Tom James)
f.) neutral blouses and camis that have feminine details (i.e. JCrew)
g.) close-toed pumps with a round toe in all the neutrals
e.) accessories! Once you have the basics, it's all about the accessories! I'll share with you my formulas for putting together great outfits so you don't have to agonize over what to wear every morning.

Once you have taken inventory of what you need, you can be intentional about what you purchase. For example, if you need a black pencil skirt and you know you need the perfect fit, you will be more focused on what to find and less likely to get side-tracked or settle for whatever is on sale.

3. Make an investment on your accessories. It can be hard to justify a $300 pair of shoes or a $100 scarf (especially in this economy!) however, it is these little details that give your look uniqueness and polish and sophistication. Not to mention, they often are very well made and last longer! I bought a pair of Cole Haan shoes last year and was nervous about the investment, but they have held up so well and are by far my most comfortable pair of shoes.

All that being said, here are a few ideas that may help you freshen up your wardrobe and help you feel fashionable when at your desk or meeting with clients. There is no reason to sacrifice your personal style for a desk job!

A fitted tweed jacket is a more fashionable choice than a matchy matchy suit jacket and below are some inexpensive options from Urban Outfitters. They give off a "Chanel" vibe with out the Chanel price tag.

The same friend who asked me to write this blog, objected to this "boyfriend" blazer (also from Urban Outfitters) because she felt like it was too baggy, but let me tell you how you can wear it in a way that is stylish AND professional!
You may have heard of the "ascot" tie that men typically wear, but why not have the female version in a beautiful scarf like these, from Louis Vouitton. I'm not usually into name brands or major splurges, but these will make a Forever 21 outfit look expensive and chic!
Once you tie the ascot, loosely tuck it into that white oxford button down and shrug into that slouchy boyfriend blazer for a very sharp look. You can pair this look with an a-line skirt like this one from Banana Republic (which comes in different colors, but I like this one best because it's a neutral but not expected):
or, you can pair that boyfriend blazer with a slouchy pair of wide-legged trousers that fit snuggly at the waist. It's important to play with proportions and coverage. If you are wearing something longer or baggier or with long sleeves than you can show a little skin (a "little" being the key word) or a fitted waistline.This is a great paper bag style from Rag and Bone or you could always do a more conservative wide-leg trouser. They are flattering on most shapes.
I like to stick to versatile tops and camis to layer with jackets and cardigans. I love this tank from JCrew because it is a bit blousy and will fit most figures and I LOVE this cardigan because it be casually layered or worn dress with skinny belt over a pencil skirt. I'm very anti the "sweater set" look, but this is a cool alternative for those of you who love the "sweater set"!Notice, that I didn't choose a basic black cardigan? Try navy and charcoal instead. I always pair navy with black and both are more interesting options! And how about that graphic skirt from BR? My tip is, go for solid prints on your pencil skirts and do sophisticated graphics or florals on your fuller skirts.

When it comes the dilemma of shoes, I say stock up on all the basic color of pumps, but depending on the region you live in, you may be able to get away with more "fashiony" shoes. For example a black, platform ankle boot with black tights. It gives a streamline, long leg and the black shoe fades into the leg so it doesn't look to overtly flashy. Here is a perfect example of a black bootie by Stuart Weitzman that would go with every outfit and look that I have pictured here. Very professional, not too chunky or too rock-n-roll but just a hint! I think, BR makes great shoes for the workplace, so I would check out their styles for more choices or go to their sister company Piperlime.com for zillions of footwear options!

I could actually go on and on...so, based on feedback and comments...I will make this my first installment for styling yourself for the workplace! Poni Silver: Hot to Trot

Without further ado, I give you a few photos of Poni Silver (if that name doesn't scream, "rich and famous", I don't know what will!) who is the beautiful drummer of the punk band The Ettes. They recently toured with The Kings of Leon through Europe, so if you don't know of them yet, you should!Dress by local Nashville designer Anna Redmon from her "Norma Clare" line.

How to: Wed in Style

I love the direction that the local Nashville Lifestyles Wedding mag chose to go with their "rock candy" cover showing of blinding bling in a sea of candy! Go get yourself a copy! Here are a few photos from our editorial and some extras that we shot for the story.

When I checked out W magazine online yesterday, I was blown away by this editorial with Lara Stone. Not just because the images are gorgeous, but because I just wrapped a shoot with a very talented team on Sunday and much of the elements that are in this spread were in our own story. It seems that more fashion editorials and CD packaging are using natural light and vintage elements. We are seeing the over-produced look less and less and the best photo's aren't put through such extensive post production. In my humble opinion, of course. Anyway, I'm looking forward to posting the pics of our most recent shoot. Keep an eye out and go get yourself a copy of W magazine in the meantime!

How to: Take a "vibey" photo...

Here are two of my favorite images from two of my favorite photographers. Working behind the scenes on photo shoots has given me the opportunity to learn a few of the great photog tricks of the trade and I wanted to pass some of them on to you, so that you too, can take a vibey picture with your own basic digital, or even, disposable camera. So here are few fun tips...try them out and let me know how much you love the results!

1. Cover your flash when taking a photo. It will cast some interesting light patterns onto your finished product.

2. If you have some mesh or netting, drape it over your lens, or over your head and shoot thru the fabric.

3. If you are the subject of the photo, don't be afraid to try lots of expressions and shapes with your body. You'll get some funny looking shots, but you are bound to get some fabulous ones too!

4. For the best light, try to take a lot of photos during the "golden hours" which are considered to be the first and last hour of sunlight during the day. The sun is softer so the lighting is more diffused and feels warmer.

5. Try using your parent's camera...you know, the kind with the film! Remember that?! Film creates a really authentic texture for those of us who can't add it in with photoshop. Also, experiment with an old Holga camera. They take awesome pictures.

6. Last little tip...just shoot a lot of frames! Usually, both the photographer and the model get more loosened up as the day goes on so you never know the magic that will come out of that! The more pictures that you take, the better chances of getting a lot of beautiful images.

I've certainly been inspired by working with these photogs in taking more interesting "DIY" photos. These are tips for those of us who don't consider ourselves techy with camera equipment, but still want to take cool pictures. Try these out and let me know!

Marc by Marc gives the perfect example of how to do punk right.

This week I am writing you from my boyfriends tour bus in Kansas City. Every time I visit this arty little town, I fall more and more in love with it.

KC is known for its eclectic array of punk-rock fashionistas and more hair dye and piercings than the average person would know what to do with. Understandably, this is not everyones cup of tea. Though, I will tell you that I firmly believe, punk rock (fashion) is far from dead. It's just a matter of how to work it out. And you, KC, have left me inspired.

We all know there is something mysteriously, exciting about wearing the color black. Not only is it flattering, no matter what the style, you will be sure to feel a little more like a bad ass. Below gives a punk rock twist on the colorless color and a new way to wear it.

Black Leather belt, blazer and black leggings. Throw a splash of neon underneath and you are ready to party.

Couture South of the Equator: Gerardo Privat

Gerardo Privat is changing the face of the fashion world in Peru. There are a group of artists in different sectors in this country that are putting Peru, known as a third world country, on the map. I wrote briefly about Christian Bravo (a local TV personality) and his restaurant Bravo Resto Bar, and about Pedro Suarez-Vertiz, who reflects the heart and musical soul of the Peruvian people in his Spanish rock music. Gerardo Privat is one of the great couture clothing designers.

I spoke with Marco Gamboa, of Privat's team and learned a lot about Gerardo's fashion sensibilities and what fuels his creative process. The most interesting comment that Marco made was the attention that Gerardo pays to European trends and blending them with the Peruvian culture. For example, in the second photograph, the model is wearing a very English looking waistcoat, but on closer inspection you can see that Gerardo has custom-made a fabric with an Inca design which means "good luck" and the fabric is made from alpaca which is a local staple. He beautifully blends his culture with a couture European jacket shape.

Peru is in the midst of the winter season, so I've pulled some photographs of the Winter Couture 09 collection and for those of us that are sweltering hot north of the Equator, I've pulled a few pictures from his Spring/Summer Pret-a-porter line.

Gerardo designs his clothes for a woman that is meant to "be in the spotlight" and he definitely does that with his body conscious, brocade, tulip skirts and brightly-hued corset tops. The collection plays with layering prints on prints as we saw a lot of in North America and Europe this last winter season and I'm sure that his clothes would bring out the colorful latina in all of us. I, for one, can picture myself in any of these outfits for a night on the red carpet or the salsa lounge.

I love the detail in this blouse. They have recreated in this in many beautiful colors on request.

Street Swing: Lima, Peru

Some of you may have noticed that we missed our Friday blog last week and that was due to the fact that we are south of the equator in Lima, Peru. Today, I want to introduce (drum roll...) a new column to our blog: Street Swing. As the name suggest, this is an opportunity for us to write about something seen or heard, on the street. Since I have been traveling in Peru over the last week, I have been snapping endless photo's and scouring the streets for fashion-worthy news. The pictures I have readily available for you today are actually about the people we have met here.

Being Peruvian herself, my friend Sara has been giving us the grande tour of the food and the nightlife. Last Saturday, we found ourselves at Bravo Resto Bar, ran by executive chef and owner Christian Bravo. Christian left the club that he owns (Depeche Order, 80's dance venue) to meet us at Bravo, where he prepared the most delicious 12 course tasting menu. Suffice to say, we rolled out of the restaurant after we polished off the chocolate and lucuma (fruit only found in Peru) ice cream dessert.

We were joined at dinner by our hosts, Brad and Sara, Tricia and Gariann (travelers from the States) and Pedro and Cynthia. Pedro Suarez-Vertiz is the Peruvian equivalent of Bono and boasts a huge fan base. So, I've got to brag on this guy and encourage you to go check out his music. While we we've been here, we've seen his face on many a billboard and/or magazine. Here a couple photos from his interview in Cosas Magazine.

Here we all are, wined and dined, and ready to dance...

This week, I had a special mission: To do a photo shoot for Dustin Hillis where the images will be used for his new website, blog and new book, Navigate, that just came out (click here to get yourself a copy). The goal was to capture his positive, high-energy, professional, experienced yet youthful personality in these images.

Dustin is a sales consultant to many of the countries top executives and sales people. He literally helps turn the economy around, one consulting session at a time, by helping people to increase their bottom line through implemention of systems and strategic compensation plans. Because he deals with clients of all ages, it's important that we made sure his photos reflect his experience and his relevance in today's marketplace.

We gathered a lot of our inspiration from the graffitti-like covers of Esquire magazine and the smartly-dressed men who grace those covers combined with a corporate twist. Here is a mock up of what we intend to do in post-production with some of Dustin's photos. Of course, we will have "Navigate" as the title here, and some of Dustin's training tips in his handwriting in the background:

Shot of Inspiration: Packing for a Weekend Getaway

We are starting to focus on specific topics for our little fashion blog, and so I today I'm taking the opportunity to introduce you to the steady column we've decided to dub, "Shot of Inspiration", because just like a bad coffee addiction, sometimes we rely on a good fix for inspiration to carry us through the day.

There is a great passage in one of the Sophie Kinsella, Shopaholic novels (which I highly reccommend because I have cried tears of self-recognition and hilarity!) where she is about to embark on a trip of some sort and it dawns on her that she has overlooked opportunities to experience the dizzying high of shopping for, and the aquisition of, luggage!

So, with the hot humid weekend ahead, I'm putting out my virtual packing list for a weekend getaway...which is coming up this following weekend to the lush, rain-free (at this time of year) Pacific Northwest. I'll be heading out to Portland, OR where I will be visiting family and taking a day trip to the charming little town of Cannon Beach, OR.

So here is what's in my bag for my weekend in the town and by the seaside:

So, yes, I'm taking my little Lola...I usually sneak her on in my purse and the trick is wrapping the oversized pashmina casually around my shoulders. I'm currently devouring the guilty pleasure One Fifth by Candace Bushnell which I'll finish on the plane. As far as the staples of the trip...3 sundresses that I can dress up or down with the barely there sandals or my tough platform strappy sandals, my boyfriend jeans by Rich and Skinny, a pair of skinny jeans from Forever 21, several Alternative apparel burnout tanks and a cocktail ring and floating diamond bracelet to glam up the low-key outfits. Oh, and I'll toss in a couple of vintage belts to add to the outfits if I'm feeling up to uber-accessorizing. The beauty regimen will be pared down to my Mac SPF 50 primer which evens out my skin, protects it, and moisturizes (yes I should be getting paid for this!) and my minty Origins lipgloss. I'd love to hear your tips for packing light and fashionably...Have an inspired weekend!

Sometimes it can be challenging to look your greatest when you don't want to put anything on!

Here are a few ideas of what to wear to stay cool and still look good...

Florals are always a great way to effortlessly make an outfit look great. It brightens you up! Be sure to wear it the right way, though. It most likely needs to be vintage or at least look vintage. Pair any floral tank with your favorite pair of shorts and a killer pair of sandals. Floral high waisted skirts are super fabulous as well.

Another great way to beat the heat and look sweet...

Sundresses!

Any color, any shape... as long as they are girly. Sundresses are great because they can be worn during the day or you can dress them up with a pair of patents at night.

Also... Accessorize! You can throw on any boring old tank or last years shorts as long as you have a fabulous scarf tied around your neck, or perhaps a killer pair of boots. You can find many of the items above at pixiemarket.com

There are too many great things to say about this lady. Not only is she gorgeous, sweet and has the body of a 25 year old... she is also the mother of three beautiful children.

MOMS! We understand that there is rarely enough time in the day to even get through your motherly duties, much less find the time to update your wardrobe as you should! This was the case with Nancy. She has a wonderful closet full of great pieces, again not knowing quite how to wear some of them.

Last Friday we decided to dig in. We went through every piece in her closet throwing those ever so special pieces (the one's she held onto way too long) into a few bags to donate and started the ever so tedious process of revamping her wardrobe. During our process of going through her closet, I wrote down all of the pieces I felt like Nancy needed in order to complete her wardrobe make-over. She set her own budget, I then went out on the town! I visited some of my favorite stores (Posh, Local Honey, Urban Outfitters, Two Elle and many more) to find the essential items to work with. I then paired each new item with an old item and formed a "story board" of ten different outfits to get her started. This way she knew exactly what to put together and exactly how to wear her new found outfits. This also helped her get an idea of how to put those things that she never would have thought of together on her own. Now, she is happy to have a clean closet and an organized wardrobe! Don't let me forget to mention the fact that she looks smokin' hot.

Behind the scenes with Frally Hynes

I worked on a shoot yesterday for Frally Hynes with photog Heidi Ross and makeup artist and hair-chitect, Natali Hettich. It's hard to capture the mood of the day in a sentence, but as the day slipped by, as is usually the case on photo shoots, we got to know eachother better and produced better and better looks. But most of all, I enjoyed today because I was surrounded by an incredible group of creative, brilliant women. Here are a few of my cell phone pics and of course, some of our finished product!

We were channeling Greek Goddess Athena...I think we nailed it with this ethereal shoot! Thanks to all of you that participated...it was great to work with you!

I got a style question via facebook the other day and I'm all set to tackle it on this beautiful memorial day! After which, I'm heading out for a long hike!

Anyway, my stylish friend Nerissa is about to purge her closet of any pieces that may be dated and asked for any ideas on what I would throw out and what I would keep. I was sneaky and went to her facebook pictures and started looking through what she already (likely, still) has in her closet. Now, she has such a great body that she can make anything look good, even if it's dated, but several pieces just need to be reworked for 2009 and some items, she just needs another set of eyes to confirm that she's got to let 'em go!

I know that plenty of people have a pair of beat to the street pointed toed stileto pumps like these, and while you can always hide them under a long pair of trousers, this toe is not the most fashion forward and you may as well toss these and purchase a new pair when they come back in vogue. A more a appropriate pair of pumps (especially for the summer) is the "jacky" pump from Banana Republic, which I've posted before for it's perfect shape and ultimated comfort!

One of my pet peeves are the halter top, polyester, sequined tops from the early/late nineties that ladies everywhere (myself included) sported to the clubs. If any of those are hiding in your closets, I think it's safe to say that they will never come back in style, quite like that again. In fact, I searched the internet to find an "example" and couldn't find a single one. So, I don't know where people are finding these gems, but I propose we burn them, and replace them with a sophisticated number like this Robert Rodriguez ruffled halter or this hipster fringe Free People top. Either one has great detailing and can be worn day or night.

A couple years ago, everyone was putting out their version of the all-over sequined dress. It can be hard to throw out a dress that you spent good money on, so the good news is, you can wear this trend in a new way today!

Take your sequined dress and loose the tights (obviously for the summer!) and add these nude, strappy, statement-making shoes (Chinese Laundry from Zappos.com).

Throw on vest or blazer....I stinkin LOVE this vintage 80's blazer (found on etsy.com) for it's cropped properties :)

*sigh* I really love this jacket but alas, it's a little small for me...someone buy it and enjoy it!
Lastly, if you own shoes like these:
...you can toss 'em. We can really do better when it comes to a casual, springy sandal :)

While we are talking about styles that are "out", I should also mention, that like the black, pointed toe, pump, boots of this nature should also be retired. If they are in good condition, store them away until they come back in style.

Trucker hats, Ed Hardy T's, and jeans that have lost their shape, all go into the "toss" category, as well as anything made in a fabric that has lost it's shape or is all "bally". White T's and button downs that have a stain or two, but you have been hanging on to, for whatever reason, must also be trashed, UNLESS, you have DIY capabilities and can dip-dye them! Sometimes, people have old suit blazers in their closet from the days of wearing serious matchy matchy suits to the office. Some of the blazers may be able to be tailored to make them less boxy and more up-to-date. If you are unsure if your blazers are good candidates for this process, send me a picture of you wearing your blazer.

Always, examine your clothes and think about ways you can bring them up-to-date before you throw them out. For example, you could hem a dress to make it a more appropriate length or take your favorite jeans and turn them into your favorite new pair of denim shorts.

I have been winged away by the "bird motif" and it is heavily influencing my wardrobe and my physical spaces. I am inexplicably drawn to fabrics/clothes that have a bird or feather design on them. I hit up a vintage clothing market this past Sunday and found a 70's tunic dress with bird motif in a brown palette and was instantly attracted to it. I was scouring the internet for white sculptural pieces for my new home and stumbled into the porcelein bird table lamp (shown below) and I even paused when I found the coral bird motif earrings and started to dream of all the ways I can wear those! On my most recent trip to Urban Outfitters, I discovered the dress shown below and debated getting it...(but alas, must spend money on the house).

I know that the fashion scoop is why readers come to this blog, but I admit that home renovations have been monopolizing my fashion sensibilites! I found this bathroom and am using it for inspiration (love the green/gold tiles) for my master bath and closet space that is in the works as I type. I was looking for examples of bathrooms that meld modern lines with glamorous color and fixtures and ta da! my heart jumped at this room! Unfortunately, my ceilings are not super-high so I will have to go with a smaller chandelier or wall sconces, but that is why it is an "inspiration" picture. I find what is awesome about the look and run with it to create my own glamorous space.

Mara Hoffman kills it with her summer 09 swim line. This beautiful abbreviated caftan shows of the legs while providing a gorgeous barely-there cover-up for traipsing around the pool or beach and this swimsuit is soooo flattering. Putting aside the fact that it's on a beautiful model, this suit doesn't have elastic or strings that cut into your skin. The wide band at the hip rest gently on the body and the overall design of the one shoulder is very now. I LOVE this suit.

Now you just have to buy a one shoulder cocktail dress so that your tan lines match!

MGMT and M.I.A apparently knew what they were doing when they introduced their NEON flair to the world in 2008. Yes, maybe it's a little eighties... but it's awesome! We are seeing these highlighter colors show up all over the runway for fall 2009.

Michael Kors exuberantly displays his 2009 Fall neon collection below. Kors describes his feelings about the new line by standing by his belief that "nothing comes back the same way twice." I agree. I think he is pushing the envelope, and I LOVE IT! There is nothing wrong with a little color, even in the work-place!

Sweet shades Sienna...

"How in the heck am I supposed to wear neon you ask?"

*Wear it with black.

There is nothing more awesome than throwing on a neon pink scarf (American Apparel $18) with a little black dress and a spicy pair of patent leather heels.

* Neon Jeans. Yep they are cool. Throw them on with a white v-neck T, some tennis shoes and a sweet pair of shades. You will most definitely be the cool kid on the block.

* Shades. You can rock neon shades any time of the year. (Urban Outfitters $16) They are always awesome.

Lastly, a little word of advice...

Neon can be overdone. Only stick with one neon item per outfit!

Spring Cleaning!

It's that time of year again, when the sun starts shining brightly through the windows and illuminating all the dirt, cobwebs and highlights those home projects that we started but haven't quite finished. The same is soooo true for our closets! So, may I propose a perfectly delightful plan for getting rid of the clothes in your closet that, let's face it, you haven't worn in YEARS!

I used to make plans to do elaborate clothing swaps with friends, complete with breakfast quiche, mimosas, and setting up my loft boutique style etc. But just the thought of all that work wore me out before I even got started! So, here is the easy formula to spring clean your closet and have fun doing it:

1.) Send a text to all your girlfriends that reads something like this:

"Hey all! I'm cleaning out my closet. Come one and all. Everything is $5, $10 or $20 bucks or you can trade an item for a bottle of wine! Everyone is welcome to bring their own clothes to sell also! My place tomorrow night, 7pm...PASS IT ON TO THE GIRLS YOU KNOW!"

Repeat this message on your Myspace and Facebook pages.

2. I lay out my clothes in preparation. One man/woman's junk is another's treasure, so don't be scared....put it all out! I happen to think that good presentation will sell more of your clothes, but the main point is to keep it simple!

3. When people start arriving, they can lay or throw their goods out on the floor or table and the fun begins.

I have found from doing these swaps that there is always something for everyone and we make a little cash in the process. The leftover clothes go to a charity of your choice and the best part of it all: you will have scored some bottles of wine to drink at your next occasion, however big or small!

Bust out the Thigh Master...it's Short's Season!

So, I've had some requests for a blog on shorts, so in honor of the boot camp I just started this morning (at the crack of dawn), I will post several shorts for different body types. All of these shorts can be found at shopbop.com so here they are in no particular order. The best shorts and why:

I love these filmy shorts from Vena Cava for the fact that they can easily be worn dressy or casual, however, I wouldn't wear them to the beach! They are flattering because they don't hug your thigh and it almost feels like a mini-skirt. They are just gorgeous!

Here are an interesting pair of shorts by Black Halo and I gave you the front and back image so that you can be discerning when purchasing these genie pants. They are really hot, but you'll want to have a toned toushie and I would venture to say that if you are over a size 6, these pants are not for you...

Now, here is a flattering "skort" for every bod. I love this crepe number by Thakoon. It has beautiful draping and a nice length to show off your gams. You can't go wrong with this "skort"!
And the last trend that I wanted to highlight is the "printed" shorts this season. There is a time and an occasion for the preppy short, but it's not really my style, however, printed shorts are IN and here are some non-preppy, ultra cool versions:

I want this entire collection from Whitley Kros, LA-based designer. I attach the emotion of easy, relaxing summer days at the park, the beach or sitting at an outdoor cafe for a glass of sauvignon blanc. Her clothes are easy to wear and you can mix and match PLUS, I really love the little silky shorts that have a little sportswear inspiration but also trick the eye into thinking they are an extention of the billowy, tunic tops. So, they are shorts, but look like a dress.....and of course, I LOVE that, because I live in dresses.
This first piece, a silky white jumpsuit, I see paired with some drapy, delicate jewelry from RB Designs for an evening out or a tropical vacation.

Prints on prints in barely there fabrics.

Love the combo of a flowy top and silky shorts with a pastel, structured blazer.

Pack light for a tropical vacation or feel like you are on vacation without leaving home just by owning this collection!

I can see the Marc Jacobs clutch paired with my Givenchy black, stacked heels and a pale colored, chiffon, flowy slip dress with a small print. Sexy, unexpected pairing, perfect for a night out!

And the rock and roll Lanvin bling with a white button down and skinny jeans, menswear inspired vest and hmmmm...maybe those same Givenchy heels. They are so versatile!

Upon request, I scouted out some camel-colored/nude pumps that I think have sleek style and versatility...which is of course, why we love the "pump"! All of these styles are simple but will take you from day to evening, fashionably.

These are sexy, affordable options where the designers have paid special attention to the detail that makes the basic pump really stand out. Another plus, these styles all have different "flesh" tones that will go well with different skin types. You may have to try a few to find the one that highlights your gams, but it will be worth the search to find just the right pair. Hopefully, I have narrowed your quest for the perfect pump!

Meet Virginia

Wouldn't it be nice to have another pair of eyes looking in on your closet and making outfits out of your rarely touched items? Those clothes and accessories that you HAD to have but have since been lost in the jungle of your closet or you've lost your passion for. Well, I recently dove into my friend's (and new client's) closet and gave it the fine-toothed, comb-over!

Virginia's wonderful boyfriend gifted her with a shopping spree by a stylist (myself) and I went to town. (Men, take note...this is GRRRREAT gift!) Literally, I went to town...I headed to Atlanta to hit some shops that we don't have in Nashville...yet.

I gotta tell you a little bit about Virginia before I tell you about my mission. This girl already has style and great body to wear her clothes, but just like most people, she had clothes that she bought because they were 1.) on sale 2.) really unique or 3.) a trend of the season. What had happened is that she had a lot of clothes that she didn't neccessarily know how to put together with other things in her closet. She fell into the rut of pairing a nice top with jeans. Every cool shirt she pulled from her closet, I would ask, "What do you wear that with?" and with out fail, she quipped, "Jeans." So, my mission was to buy some new pieces but also create combos and give her new ideas around which she wear the rest of her OVER FLOWING closet!

We ransacked her closet and I made a list and checked it twice and here is what I came up with:

Chunky strappy black platforms
Nude strappy platforms
blazer that goes with everything
burnout tanks
basic A-line mini skirts in several colors
flea market jewelry gems and one-of-a-kind pieces

With my list in hand I hit the streets. Once, I drove into Atlanta I GPS'd my destinations and went full throttle. I hit up H&M first and found and structual white, summery blouse (that I later paired with a beautiful pencil skirt with a watercolor print from Zara) and a fun fringy scarf. I headed from there to a flea market and found an armful of bangles. I wanted every single one for myself...which is always a good sign that I'm on the right track!

Dillards was a one stop shop for shoes and they had a great selection. Usually, I'm a boutique shopper, but this department store is not bad for finding great styles for reasonable prices. I flipped out over this Gianni Bini shoe, and even though it wasn't on the list, I snapped it up for Virginia.

Urban Outfitters and Zara rounded out the rest of my shopping spree where I loaded up on skirts, belts and THE blazer. I love this blazer...and as you can tell, so does Virginia. Here she is trying her hand at a little golf, sporting a skinny pair of black pants and riding boots she already owned, with this gorgeous, drapy blazer from Zara. Since she's had this in her wardrobe, she's worn it consistently over dresses and jeans...I would wear it to bed, too, I love it so much!

So, here's a little insight into the shopping experience we deliver for our customers...who quickly become friends. We bring our haul of clothes to your home and play dress up and mix and match. And we're glad to come every season and sniff out the good for you, so that you can shop your own closet with confidence, knowing that you DO have something to wear and it WILL look fabulous!

Although our great little city has a plethora of amazing places to shop (and still growing), I seem to always end up in one spot when I am looking for the perfect thing to wear.

Local Honey Boutique sells vintage and locally hand made clothing. No matter what, I always know I am going to find something intriguingly original.

Three of my favorite designers in the store include: White Rabbit, Valentine Valentine and Shannon Lea Clothing. Not only are these women talented, they work hard to bring you something stylistically innovative and fresh.

It is the number one place in Nashville to shop... hands down.

I love the Fall collection for John Varvatos...in fact, I love mostly everything that John Varvatos designs. He captures just the right essence of manliness, style and cut with his clothing and accessories for men. Just look at him, he exudes confidence and style:

I want to enlighten men about this line if they have not yet heard of it, because you can't go wrong picking out clothes from this designer. And women, if you want to dress your significant other to the nines, this can be a one stop shop!

His fall line incorporates a black and graphite color palate and has the feeling of deconstructed English gentleman:

The loose scarf and tie shown here with beautifully tailored suit is perfect for work or take off the jacket and hit happy hour.

Many of his looks included adding a chunkier, more sculptural tie clip. It's a small detail that shows you put some thought into your look and the chunky, graphic look is very masculine. This piece is a great gift for your man's birthday!

This look is similar with the oversized saftey pins that are linking the vest together. Adding an urban twist to a very sleek suit.

Their campaign for fall reminds me of a "mad men" era with modern shades. All around, a big hit in my book and men looking to make an good impression should take note of this designer!

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

Costume Design

The wardrobe for this movie is absolutely insane. The costume designer Jacqueline West has been nominated for two Oscars for costume design; One for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" in 2009 and the other for the movie "Quills" in 2001. The photos above are three of my favorites.

In the first photo, Cate Blanchett is dressed in the infamous red dress constructed by Jacqueline West herself. She says it was greatly influenced by the designs of Claire McCardell, one of the top costume designers in the 1940's and 1950's.

I love, love this dress!

As for Brad Pitt, dressed only in the chicest attire haute couture has to offer, he was a little more than easy on the eyes.

I'm so taken with this look...I'm thinking about drawing on these photos for inspiration in styling a new artist that I'm working with. These pictures were taken for Vogue Italia by Richard Burbridge. I love the mix of moulin rouge/rocker/soft/tough combo that is communicated by these clothes. This look really has all the perfect ingredients!
